My Antonia

I can't go to bed tonight because I miss my friends...Antonia, Jim, Lena. If you haven't read this book by Willa Cather you are lucky. Lucky because if you choose to you can drive to the library and get it tomorrow. How about you? Have you read any good books lately? What are your favorite classics?

I LOVE that book. I think it's my favorite. It takes place near where we live, so I can visualize it very well. I should get it out and re-read it. I also loved To Kill a Mockingbird and The Catcher in the Rye. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!

If you haven't already, please read, We Took To The Woods, by Louise Dickinson Rich. YOU could have written this book, with your touching, poignant writing, except you weren't alive in 1942. I thought of you the whole time I read this book. I'm not sure if Catcher in the Rye is your stuff, but tell Jemm, that when I finished reading it, I chose then and there that I wanted to become a writer. I can't describe it. I read that book three times in a row. I told a friend, "THIS is the kind of book I'd like to write someday." And to be honest - I cannot point to a single reason, even today, why that book affects me so strongly. It just did. It just does.

I can't remember if I've read it so that makes me think I haven't! I'll get it soon! We just made a trip so I had to take all of my books back to the library and need to start a new one. Visit me soon...to see where I am! lol

I don't know where to start.

On the lighter side of classics, have you read I Capture the Castle? Or Cold Comfort Farm? Those are favorites around here...

Also, Peace Like a River, a new book that is a classic in my mind, for sure.

I have been on a Willa Cather bender here. Have you read Lucy Gayheart or The Professor's House? Good stuff. Not as good as My Antonia, but still good. Recently read A Tale of Two Cities. Amazing.
