red flag

320x240

We have been in a severe drought for a while.  I can’t remember the last time it rained.  Everyday it has been the same little icon on the corner of the newspaper and tv screen : red flag fire danger.

And everyday life went on, I went on lunch dates and bought cat food.

Until today when I smelled smoke during the late morning.  Soon enough there were several fires burning around us.  There was virtually no humidity in the air and powerful winds made these fires extremely dangerous.

Our loved ones and friends are fine.

Though sadly several houses have burned.

It scared me.

My husband heard on the news that the conditions are the same as they were in the dust bowl. Scary. At least there is less farm land now and what is there is managed more wisely. We've had numerous fires around us too.

That is a daunting picture. I called my friend DM in San Diego once to check on him and his family during some fiery times years ago. He answered and calmy told me his family had gone inland to stay with friends and he was in the process of hosing his house down. I admired his strength.. I admire yours.

I've been hearing about the wildfires but had no idea you were so close - stay safe.
