wrapping around everything

Four years ago I discovered craft blogs while searching for wraparound skirt patterns.  I think I found Cece of All Dolled Up, who sadly no longer has a blog but will always be among my favorite blogs ever.  I remember going to bed with my thoughts swirling.  It has changed my life in so many ways.  All for the better.

Anyhow it’s today, four years later that I finally got around to deciding on a wraparound skirt.

This one I altered for Molly and her teeny tiny waist, which at the moment is the opposite of my own waist.

My oldest is heading back to school tomorrow, after a nice long stay at home.  I’m trying to act like her going to school faraway is okay.  Yup. Just fine.  Though I have a house full of other kids to care for and enough stuff to stay busy with I just want that kid here too.  She is super funny, and she likes crafts.  That’s good-people qualities, you know?

Though it seems like I am just rambling on and on, I’m not really. It’s all relative.  The wraparound skirt was research of sorts to look through lots of old patterns and fabrics and make a gigantic mess…which in reality was therapy of sorts to keep my head happy busy.

I’m trying not to make it homely as the pattern, but there is really only so much you can do to make a wraparound skirt not come off as homely.  Regardless, I love the simplicity of a wraparound and if ever someday when my baby is toddling around and my waist doesn’t look like I have a front butt* I would like to wear one, too.

* I made this phrase up, it’s pretty clever, eh?

I do believe I grew up in the era of the wrapped shirt and dress. Loved them then and still love them now! Your children are just precious, loved the photo of a young Clark Gable in his bathrobe. Happy New Year, Julie.

Haha! Front butt! It's a childbearing/carrying phenomenon!

I have never owned a wrap around skirt but I love them. Just think....in a few months it will be summer and you will cradling that front butt in your arms. Have a great weekend.

I'm glad you are making a skirt! I think it will be darling, and sewing is definitely a way to cope with children who try to go away.
I found crafting blogs about 5 years ago, including yours! Can't remember the particular craft...

I love them on other people too. I've never tried one, but since I won't even wear shorts...I'd say it's out for me ;)

Cheering you on and remembering my own wrap around skirt. A very good looking boyfriend brought mine back from Florida and it was handpainted.

Remembering it and the days gone by with that good looking boyfriend.

I loved him so much and always thought he would be my one and only. Any guy that picked out a skirt like that must be the one.

However, he really blew it when he said to me oneday when I was wearing my skirt...

Jackie, did I ever tell you that you are more beautiful inside than outside? That was the end of Danny Boy and his skirt!

I have a sketch of a cool wrap around skirt my sister brought with her, made in Mexico and so simple and cool. Have been wanting to try and make it for months...just as soon as my 'bump' departs!
