Sew More

Lately I have had a thirst to sew. I spend more time figuring out what to make than I do actually sewing and sometimes that is just as much fun.

A bias trimmed apron out of some of my favorite fabric. I think it’s an American Jane print.

Unlike the corduroy vest I recently posted about these overalls from the same fabric have no secrets. And I realize they might be a bit geeky but Henry is four and can still get away with a little geeky/cute.

I’m hoping for his sake I realize when geeky/cute is just geeky.

apron of the week (3)

This is an apron from my great grandmother. She lived with us while she was in her 90's. Her name was Daisy, doesn't that alone make you love her? I wish I was more appreciative of her, as kids my five siblings and I treated her as a museum artifact, our friends always marveled at how old she was. One summer during dinner she bit into a tomato and the seeds sprayed out onto my grandmother's arm. My sister and I laughed until we couldn't breathe. This is what I remember about her. It's too easy to look back now and wish I had been more dutiful to her. If you have a great grandmother or grandmother hug them from me!

Apron of the Week 2

This apron is from a box of goodies from my mother. Her grandparents saved everything. I mean everything...they were lovely people and lived during a great time. She labeled everything and why it had sentimental value. Through these little notes I feel like I know her. She was born in the late 1880's. She lived through her children and her love is still strong within her things. Does that make sense? My grandfather always said he had a perfect childhood. He was taught well as he was a storybook grandfather to me. It is always a special gift to receive a box of hand-me-downs from my mother!


Things have been crazy at home being the last week of school but luckily I have found time for some sewing therapy. These quick pj's for Molly used a yard of gingham, a Michael's $2.50 shirt and an iron on from the thrift store.

I was attempting to take a pretty outdoor picture of this shirt when the yard service people showed up in ambush fashion...I felt a little silly having to stretch and reach my shirt from a tree and skip da lou into the house. Anyhow this pattern (New Look 6775) has several nice styles, I will try a dress next.

Sesame Street is over, which means in short I must go. Tootleloo!

Apron of the Week

I bought this apron many years ago from a woman who was glad to be rid of it. She had a rather large pile of aprons and needle work. Every item was a dollar and I only picked two aprons. Was I crazy? This is often the case with me...always in a hurry with my eyes set to the next point rather than enjoying the present.

The first roses of the season. The bushes are loaded with buds and a couple more warm days will force them out. They smell so good!
