vintage coloring books

Collecting old coloring books...just because.

Farm ones are my favorite.

But Holly Hobbie is a close second.

These remind me of my childhood.

We keep a stack of copied pages for long trips (I can't let them actually color in the books!)

This one was my mother's when she was a child.

Go to the Betsy McCall website for adorable printable paper dolls for several different years.

Oh my goodness, I used to adore Holly Hobbie when I was a little girl, and was so happy when my mum finally brought me a bedspread and pillowcase set with Holly adorning them. I'd forgotten all about her until I saw your pictures, now I'm wondering if all my old books are still in my mum's attic *goes to the phone* lol x

I love all your vintage images...your header is SO CUTE!!

These books are just so sweet. Do you ever think about how sweet and innocent children's materials used to be? Now everything is dripping in irony or is just so darned...savvy.

Oh, I Love Betsy McCall!! In fact about 10 minutes ago I took pictures of the magnetic Betsy paperdoll on my refrigerator and was thinking of posting it for Rednesday. (because she has red clothes on at the moment.) I have visited that B.Mc. website before and I have a doll from my year of birth printed out here by the computer.

How sweet! I love them all! I remember cutting Betsy McCall out of the magazines at my grandmother's! Love those little pies, too! Any left? ♥

What a great idea to collect old coloring books. I would have never thought of that. I used to love coloring in coloring books when I was a child, especially on rainy days. My children prefer to just draw their own drawings, instead of coloring within the lines. Such nonconformists! ;)

This post took me waaaaaay back to Christmas as a little girl. Our mom would take me and my sister Beth to Hutzler's in downtown Baltimore and we'd buy our Christmas dresses. It was absolutely magical.

And then we'd go to Kresge or Woolworth's and get a Christmas coloring book. And honestly, it would be way better than any new dress. Crisp Crayola crayons and heavily-outlined pictures of Santa and elves waiting to be colored . . it was truly Christmas when all that happened.
